Prof. Ummu A. Jalingo

Prof. Ummu Ahmed Jalingo was born on 22nd February, 1965 at Gombi Local Government Area of Adamawa State. She graduated from the Bayero University, Kano (BUK) with a Second Class Upper division in Economics. She bagged her Phd. in Economics from the Usman Danfodio University (UDU), Sokoto in 2015 with specialisation in Aviation Economics.

Mrs. Jalingo started her career in 1997 as Lecturer 1 in the Bayero University, Kano and rose to the position of Professor in 2010. She was the Head of the Economics Department, BUK from 2009 to 2013 and she is currently the Director of the Centre for Social and Economic Research (CSER) in the Federal University, Dutse.

Prof. Jalingo is a member of many professional bodies which includes the Nigerian Economic Society, Institute of Management Consultants and the Nigerian Institute of Management. She has published and edited many books; some of which are Essentials of Economics, Micro-Enterprise & Industrial Development (An analytical study of Leather Industry in Kano State) and Labour Economics & Industrial Relations. Prof. Jalingo also published many articles in books and journals both locally and internationally. She also attended seminars and conferences both in Nigeria and abroad.

Prof. Jalingo received many awards in recognition of her contribution to National Development which include MEDA Meritorious Diamond Award (2010), Nigeria Merit Gold Award (2011), Legacy of True Leadership Award (2011), Child’s Dream Award (2011) and Adamawa State Woman of Substance Merit Award (2011).
