Departmental Directors

Salam-Alada Sirajuddin Kofo
Director, Legal Services - Since 6/5/2019

Mr. Kofo Salam-Alada obtained his law degree from the Obafemi Awolowo University and was called to the Nigerian Bar in 1987. He holds a Masters of Law also from the Obafemi Awolowo University. He has attended several executive courses both within and outside the country and he is an alumnus of the prestigious Harvard Kennedy School, Boston. He started his career as a lecturer Junior Trainee Fellow) at the Obafemi Awolowo University. He thereafter joined the services of the Nigeria Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), as a Legal Officer from where he joined the services of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) in 1990.

He had previously served Information Technology Department and the former Foreign Operations Department of the CBN before being transferred to the Legal Services Department in December 2003. He later served as the Director, Consumer Protection Department from August 2018 to February, 2020 before his re-deployment to the Legal Services Department, as Legal Adviser/ Director, Legal Services Department. In the course of his career, he has acquired extensive experience in banking and finance law, banking regulatory law, insolvency and bankruptcy, anti-money laundering/countering the financing of terrorism (AML/CFT) and arbitration amongst others.

He has over the years, participated in the drafting of key legislations, regulations and guidelines on banking and finance, thereby, contributing to the development of the law in this regard. Worthy of note is in this regard is his contribution to, and efforts on the enactment of the Banks and Other Financial Institutions Act, 2020.He played a critical role in the Banking Sector Reform of 2009 and was instrumental to the setting up of the Asset Management Corporation of Nigeria (AMCON), as well as other SPVs and spin-off institutions of the Bank.

He was the first Acting Company Secretary of AMCON and was the pioneer Board Secretary of the Infrastructure Corporation of Nigeria (InfraCorp).

Mr. Kofo Salam Alada has made presentations at different fora on issues relating to banking and the financial system in Nigeria. He has served on several committees relating to the financial system within and outside Nigeria. He has also represented the CBN severally at working groups of the United Nations Commission on International Trade Law (UNCITRAL). He has in the course of his career mentored a number of young lawyers, bringing to bear his vast experience in banking and financial law.

He is a Fellow of the Institute for Service Excellence and Good Governance, Fellow of Nigeria Institute of Credit Administrator, Honourary Fellow CIBN, a Member of the Nigerian Institute of Chartered Arbitrators, as well as a member of the Institute of Chartered Mediators and Conciliators (ICMC) and the Nigerian Institute of Management (NIM).
