Departmental Directors

Muhammad Abba
Director, Human Resources - Since 11/24/2023

Muhammad Abba currently serves as the Director, Human Resources Department of the Central Bank of Nigeria, a position he holds since November 24, 2023. Before then, he was the Director, Capacity Development Department . Prior to that he was the Head, International Training Institute (ITI) in the Capacity Development Department (CDD) of the Central Bank of Nigeria. His prior experience in the Bank includes working as a core Research Staff and later as Administrator of Research Departmentand having been an active player in the core functions of the economic policy directorate of the Bank. Abba has a bachelor’s degree in Economics from University of Sokoto (1988) and obtained a master’s degree in Economic Policy Management from the Columbia University in the City of New York, USA (2008). 

  His working experience transverses, economic policy formulation and implementation, public sector budget and planning, policy research and capacity development, among others. He participated in numerous ad hoc assignmentsin the Bank contributing significantly to the Bank’s mandate delivery, among which were the committee for Bank-wide performance goal setting training, the transition to the new CDD structure, and engineered the first review of International Training Institute’s (ITI) Curriculum, and development of new courses. Other committees’ membership positions include Monetary Policy Implementation Committee, Financial Stability Report committee and CBN Annual Report Committee.

In addition to his numerous publications, he also participated in a study on “An Evaluation of the Bank’s Transition to Digital Learning Platforms During the Covid-19 Pandemic”. He has attendedseveral courses at the International Monetary Fund, the Bundesbank, Harvard Kennedy School, Federal Reserve Bank, and IDEP-UN, among others. Abba is a life member of the Nigerian Economics Society, member Association for Talent Development (a U.S-based global training association), and member Learning and Development Network Association.  Mr. Abba also represents the Central Bank of Nigeria on the Board of the Centre for Management Development.
