Mr. Ernest C. Ebi MFR  
Retired as Deputy Governor, Corporate Services - Served in the CBN from 6/4/1999 To 6/3/2009








Ernest Chukwudi Ebi was born on 30th June 1950 in Port Harcourt, Rivers State and hails from Urualla, Ideato North Local Government Area in Imo State.

He obtained his West African School Certificate and Higher School Certificate from Holy Ghost College, Owerri, Imo state between 1970 and 1972. He thereafter proceeded to Howard University, Washington DC, United States of America and graduated with a Bachelor of Business in Marketing in 1978. He obtained a Master of Business Administration from the same University in 1979. He has also attended several career enhancing courses and seminars both within and outside Nigeria.

Mr. Ebi commenced his working career in March 1976 as an Account Technician with the National Association of Counties, Washington DC and between July 1978 and November 1981, he was the Assistant Vice-President, Federal Savings and Loans Association, Washington DC.

He returned to Nigeria in 1981 and joined the services of International Merchant Bank Plc, where he held various positions. In October 1993, he was appointed the Executive Director, Corporate Banking, African Continental Bank Plc by the financial regulatory authorities, the CBN/NDIC and in March 1995, he was appointed the Managing Director/Chief Executive of the New Nigeria Bank Plc., again by CBN/NDIC. During his tenure in NNB Plc, he implemented a successful turn around plan that ensured the survival of the bank.
In January 1998, he was appointed the Deputy Managing Director /Chief Operating Officer of Diamond Bank Plc. During this period, he led the re-engineering and re-designing of the bank's business processes that positioned the bank towards increased growth, profitability and efficiency. Also, the bank became more focused and customer oriented.

In June 1999, Mr. Ebi was appointed Deputy Governor in charge of International Operations in the Central Bank. During the period, he maintained oversight functions over the nation's international economic relations, trade financing activities and formulation of policy and regulations for the effective management of the nation's foreign exchange/ exchange rate policy etc. He served as Chairman of Deputies of Group of twenty four countries G-24 and represented Nigeria at several top level meetings of the Bretton Woods and African Group1 Constituency.

He is currently the Deputy Governor, Corporate Services with oversight responsibilities over Information Technology, Human Resources and Procurement and Support Services Department. Mr. Ebi is married with three children.
