Born on the 15th March, 1947, in Yola, Adamawa State of Nigeria, Mallam Dahiru Muhammad attended the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria where he obtained a B.Sc (Soc. Sc), in 1972. Between 1976 and 1977, he attended Vanderbilt University, USA, where he obtained an MA (Econs.) and a PGDE.
He began his working career with the then North-Eastern State Government, as
an Assistant Secretary, Admin between 1972 and 1973. He then moved to North East
College of Arts and Science as a Lecturer in Economics from 1973 to 1975.He
became a senior lecturer in Economics with the University of Maiduguri from 1975
to 1983. Mallam Dahiru Muhammad joined the Bank of the North Ltd. as an Area
Manager in 1983 and rose to the position of Assistant General Manager in 1988.
He was appointed the MD/CEO of New Africa Merchant Bank in 1989 and served the
Bank in that capacity till 1994 when he retired from the services of the bank.
He became a fellow of the Chartered Institute of Nigeria (FCIB) in 1993. He is
also a fellow of the African- American Institute, New York, U.S.A.

His hobbies are playing Golf (a member of Kaduna Golf Club), and reading. He is married to Dr. (Mrs.) Nafisatu Dahiru Mohammad and they are blessed with four children.
