Healthcare Sector Research and Development Intervention (Grant) Scheme

The Healthcare Sector Research and Development Intervention was established in May 2020,to help strengthen the public healthcare system with innovative financing of research and development in new and improved drugs, vaccines and diagnostics of infectious diseases in Nigeria.

Objectives

  • Providing grants for research and development in new, or revalidation of drug molecules, phytomedicines and vaccines for the control, prevention and treatment of infectious diseases in Nigeria.
  • Improving the capacity of the biotechnological and pharmaceutical companies, institutions, researchers, and research institutes in the development of approved Nigerian drugs, herbal medicines and vaccines for infectious diseases.
  • Supporting capacity of relevant health agencies towards attaining World Health Organization (WHO) Maturity Level 3, a prerequisite for manufacturing of vaccines in Nigeria.
  • Facilitating partnership between academia (researchers, research institutes and universities) and industry into the research and development of drugs, phytomedicines and vaccines in Nigeria.

How to apply

  • The CBN publishes advertisements in the National Dailies calling for proposals from eligible participants.
  • Eligible participants apply and upload application on the HSRDIS portal
  • The Body of Experts review uploaded applications and deliberate on whether to recommend for funding or not
  • The CBN Management approve for the release the amounts recommended for funding to the successful applicants
  • The CBN disburses the approved amount to the beneficiaries in tranches
