Born on the 26th June, 1954, Professor Akpan Hogan Ekpo attended Howard University, Washington DC., USA between 1973 and 1978 where he earned B.A and M.A. in Economics .He is also a holder of a Diploma (AFA) from Northwestern University, Evanston, Illinois and had attended the University of Pittsburgh, USA between 1980-1983 where he obtained M.A. and PH.D Degrees in Economics.
He became a Professor of Economics at the University of Uyo and also served as the Vice Chancellor of the institution between 2000 and 2005.
Professor Akpan was the Chairman of Akwa Ibom Investment and
Industrial Promotion Council, Uyo. He was also Chairman of the Ministerial
Advisory Committee, Federal Ministry of Finance, Abuja between 1994-1998. He was
also a member of the Board of Vmobile (now Celtel) from 2002-2005. Professor
Akpan is a member (Also President) of the Nigerian Economic Society, Nigerian
Statistical Association, American Economic Association, Institute of Public
Finance, Germany and the Royal Economic Society, U.K.
He is a recipient of the National Productivity Merit Award, 2002, and the Dr.
Kwame Nkurumah African Leadership Award, 2003. He has over 160 publications in
referred journals and other research outlets. Professor Ekpo is married to Mrs.
Njeri Ekpo and they are with four children.
