Mr. Samson Inie Akono was born on the 15th March, 1938. He studied at the University of Lagos where he obtained a Bachelors degree in Law (LLB) and proceeded to the Nigeria Law School, where he acquired the Barrister at Law (BL).
Mr. Samson Inie Akono's banking career started in 1965 when he joined the services of the Central Bank of Nigeria. He rose through the ranks to become a Deputy Director and retired subsequently in December,1988
In 1990, he became an Executive Director with Nigeria Merchant Bank and eventually left in the same year to become the Executive Director, Afribank (Nig) plc. In 1992, he was appointed an Executive Director with NAL Merchant Bank. He returned to Afribank (Nig) plc. in 1993 to his former position of Executive Director and served in that capacity until 1996. He was appointed to the Board of the Central Bank of Nigeria in 1999.
