Mallam Adamu Ciroma (Late)
Retired as Governor - Served in the CBN from 9/24/1975 To 6/28/1977








Late Mallam Adamu Ciroma served as Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria from 1976 to 1977. He born on the 20th of November, 1934 at Potiskum, Yobe State. He completed his primary education in 1949 at the Borno Middle School in Maiduguri from where he proceeded to Barewa College in Zaria for his secondary education in 1950. After obtaining his A Levels in 1957, he proceeded t o the University of Ibadan where he obtained a Bachelors of Arts Degree in History.

Mallam Ciroma served in different capacities in the Public Service and was appointed to the Board of the Central Bank in 1970 where he served as a Director before his appointment as the Governor in 1976. He also served at various times as Minister in the Ministries of Industry, Agriculture and Finance and on the Board of several companies.

Mallam Ciroma is happily married with children.

Guidlines for Licensed Banks:In 1990, the CBN introduced a set of Prudential guidelines for licensed banks which were complimentary to the capital adequacy requirement and statement of accounting standards. The guidelines spelt out the criteria to be adopted by banks in classifying non-performing loans.
